Best Satay in Singapore East 2026: By Zone, Halal Options and Prices Per Stick

Satay in Singapore East costs $0.60 to $0.80 per stick, sold in minimum orders of 10 sticks. The dish — marinated meat grilled over charcoal or gas and served with peanut sauce, compressed rice cakes (ketupat), and raw onion — is available at every major hawker centre in Singapore East. The two most established satay locations in the east are Old Airport Road Food Centre in Geylang (home to Haron Satay, open until midnight) and Bedok 85 Fengshan Food Centre in Bedok. Both are within 4 km of each other. Halal satay (chicken and mutton) is available at all hawker centres listed. Non-halal pork satay is sold only at Chinese-operated stalls at Bedok 85 and Marine Parade.

Satay in Singapore East: Where to Eat by Zone

Singapore East’s satay options span from Geylang in the west to Changi in the east. Use the zone below that is closest to where you are:

Geylang Zone — Old Airport Road Food Centre

Haron Satay is the most cited satay stall in Singapore East. It has operated at Old Airport Road Food Centre since the 1980s using charcoal grills — not gas. Charcoal grilling creates a smokier, slightly drier exterior than gas, which is why regulars specifically look for the charcoal smoke before joining the queue. The stall serves halal chicken ($0.70/stick) and mutton ($0.70/stick). A plate of 20 sticks costs $14. The peanut sauce is thicker and more textured than most, with a dried shrimp base.

• Address: Old Airport Road Food Centre, 51 Old Airport Rd, Singapore 390051
• MRT: Dakota MRT (CC8) — 10-min walk; Mountbatten MRT (CC7) — 12-min walk
• Halal: Yes — chicken and mutton only
• Price: $0.70/stick, min. 10 sticks
• Hours: 11 am – 12 am daily

Order 20 sticks minimum — 10 chicken, 10 mutton — and compare. The mutton here has a stronger marinade that holds up better to the charcoal heat.

Bedok Zone — Bedok 85 Fengshan Food Centre

Bedok 85 Fengshan Food Centre has two satay stalls operating side by side. One is halal (chicken and mutton, $0.70/stick); the other is non-halal, serving pork belly satay ($0.70/stick) alongside chicken. The pork belly satay uses cuts with fat marbling — the fat renders over the grill and creates a juicier stick than chicken. Both stalls use gas grills rather than charcoal. The peanut sauce at the non-halal stall has a stronger dried chilli kick.

• Address: Bedok 85 Fengshan Food Centre, 85 Bedok North St 4, Singapore 460085
• MRT: Bedok MRT (EW5) — 15-min walk, or Bus 65 from Bedok Interchange
• Halal stall: Yes — chicken and mutton
• Non-halal stall: Pork belly and chicken
• Price: $0.70/stick (both stalls)
• Hours: 5 pm – 11 pm (halal stall); 5 pm – 10.30 pm (non-halal) — closed days vary

Pork belly satay sells out earlier than chicken. The non-halal stall typically runs out of pork by 8.30 pm on weekdays and 7.30 pm on weekends.

Marine Parade Zone — Marine Parade Food Centre

Marine Parade Food Centre has a satay stall that is easier to access since Marine Parade MRT opened on the Thomson-East Coast Line. The stall serves chicken and mutton at $0.65/stick — the lowest price per stick in the east for a named hawker centre. One differentiator: the stall also grills prawn satay ($1.00/stick) — three prawns per skewer, available in limited quantity. Prawn satay is harder to find in Singapore East and worth ordering if the stall has stock.

• Address: Marine Parade Food Centre, 76 Marine Parade Central, Singapore 440076
• MRT: Marine Parade MRT (TE26) — 5-min walk
• Halal: Yes
• Price: $0.65/stick (chicken/mutton); $1.00/stick (prawn)
• Hours: 11 am – 10 pm (closed Monday)

Prawn satay is limited — ask the stall when you arrive if it’s available that day. If yes, order 5 prawn alongside 10 chicken for a mixed plate.

East Coast Zone — East Coast Lagoon Food Village

East Coast Lagoon Food Village is the most tourist-facing satay location in Singapore East — open-air, facing the sea, with multiple satay stalls competing for the same customer. Prices run slightly higher ($0.80–$0.90/stick) due to the location premium, but the setting — eating satay outdoors near East Coast Park — is worth the slight markup if atmosphere matters. Halal stalls are the majority here; confirm with the stall before ordering. The satay is charcoal-grilled at most stalls.

• Address: East Coast Lagoon Food Village, 1220 East Coast Pkwy, Singapore 468960
• MRT: No direct MRT — Grab/taxi from Bedok MRT or Marine Parade MRT; cycling from East Coast Park
• Halal: Mostly yes — confirm per stall
• Price: $0.80–$0.90/stick
• Hours: 12 pm – 11 pm daily (some stalls open later on weekends)

East Coast Lagoon is best for groups who want to combine satay with seafood from the other stalls and sit outdoors. For the best satay specifically, Old Airport Road or Bedok 85 are more consistent.

Changi Zone — Changi Village Hawker Centre

Changi Village Hawker Centre has a satay stall serving halal chicken and mutton at $0.65/stick. It is not the best satay in Singapore East on technical merit, but the setting — Changi Village is one of the most atmospheric eating destinations in Singapore, with a slower pace and an open-air feel near the ferry terminal — makes it worth eating here if you’re already in Changi. Good paired with the nasi lemak and other hawker food at the same centre.

• Address: Changi Village Hawker Centre, 2 Changi Village Rd, Singapore 500002
• MRT: No direct MRT — Bus 2 from Tampines MRT (EW2), ~25 min
• Halal: Yes
• Price: $0.65/stick
• Hours: 12 pm – 10 pm daily

Charcoal vs Gas Satay — Does It Matter?

Yes, it matters. Charcoal grilling generates significantly higher and more uneven heat than gas, which creates the surface char and smoky flavour associated with traditional satay. The Maillard reaction (browning) happens faster and more intensely over charcoal, producing a drier, slightly crisped exterior while keeping the interior moist from the marinade fat.

Gas grills produce a consistent, controllable heat that is more practical for high-volume hawker operations. Gas satay is well-made at many stalls — the marinade and meat quality matter more than the fuel source below a certain skill threshold. But at the top tier, charcoal stalls (Haron at Old Airport Road, East Coast Lagoon stalls) produce a distinct result that gas cannot replicate.
