The hawker centre most people mean when they search “Beach Road hawker centre” is Golden Mile Food Centre at 505 Beach Road — opened in 1975 to resettle street hawkers from Jalan Sultan, and still home to at least one stall (Golden Mile Special Yong Tau Foo) that traces back to 1958, plus a former Michelin Bib Gourmand winner. Two levels, roughly 100 stalls, and genuinely one of the more food-history-dense hawker centres in central Singapore.

Common mix-up worth clearing up: Golden Mile Food Centre is a separate building from the adjacent Golden Mile Complex (now rebranded “The Golden Mile”), a different, larger mixed-use conserved building being redeveloped with a new 45-storey residential tower expected around 2029. The food centre itself already completed its own renovation closure back in Dec 2020–Feb 2021 and reopened 1 March 2021 — it is open and operating normally, and is not part of that separate redevelopment project.

Getting There, Parking & Paying
This is the part most Golden Mile Food Centre guides skip entirely.
- Parking: the food centre itself has no dedicated visitor carpark. Nearest options are Golden Mile Complex and Golden Mile Tower car parks, both a short walk along Beach Road — daytime rates typically start around $2 for the first hour and $1 per 30 minutes after, with evening parking often switching to a flat entry rate around $2.20 after 6pm. Confirm current rates on-site, as carpark pricing changes periodically.
- Payment: expect a cash-heavy experience. Many stalls, especially older ones, are cash-only or cash-preferred; a growing but still incomplete number accept PayNow or QR payment. Bring cash as your primary plan rather than assuming card/QR will work everywhere.
- MRT: Nicoll Highway is the closest station (roughly 5-8 minutes’ walk); Bugis and Lavender MRT are also walkable depending on your route.
- Upstairs: the building is informally known as the “Beach Road Army Market” because of the army surplus and camping gear shops on the upper floor — worth a browse if you’re already there.
