Thailand eliminated Singapore 4-3 on aggregate in the ASEAN Championship semi-final, after a 3-1 first-leg loss at Jalan Besar Stadium on 15 August and a 2-1 second-leg win in Bangkok on 18 August that wasn’t enough to overturn the deficit. But the tie ended up being remembered as much for what happened off the pitch — over 4,000 home tickets sold out in roughly 90 minutes, and resale prices on Carousell hit as high as S$1,500 a pair, about 30 times face value.

The Result: Singapore 3-4 Thailand (Aggregate)
| First leg | Singapore 1-3 Thailand — 15 Aug 2026, Jalan Besar Stadium |
| Second leg | Thailand 1-2 Singapore — 18 Aug 2026, Rajamangala National Stadium, Bangkok |
| Aggregate | Thailand win 4-3 — Thailand advance to the final |
In the second leg, Harhys Stewart put Singapore ahead before half-time, Thailand’s Kakana Khamyok equalised from the penalty spot, and an own goal by Pansa Hemviboon briefly put Singapore 2-1 up on the night — enough to win the second leg, but not enough to close the two-goal gap from the first leg.
What Actually Happened With the Tickets
The controversy started before a ball was even kicked. Over 4,000 home-supporter tickets went on sale via Tickethotline (the AFF’s official ticketing partner for the tournament) at 11am on 12 August, priced at S$49 plus a S$3.49 booking fee. Fans described the buying experience as “whack-a-mole” — seats vanishing the instant they were clicked — and tickets were gone within roughly 90 minutes. Some fans who joined the queue from before 11am still couldn’t secure a seat by the time sales closed.
Shortly after, listings appeared on Carousell asking up to S$1,500 for a pair of Category 1 seats — about 30 times the original price. Fans and commentators pointed to bots as the likely cause of the near-instant sellout, and called on the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) to introduce better anti-bot safeguards for future ticket sales. FAS said it does not condone scalping and urged fans not to buy from unauthorised resellers, warning that ticket authenticity through unofficial channels can’t be guaranteed.
Is ticket scalping actually illegal in Singapore? No — there is currently no law against reselling a ticket above its original price, as long as the buyer actually receives a valid ticket in return for their payment. It only becomes a criminal matter if the “seller” takes payment and never delivers, which is cheating/scam territory, not scalping itself. That said, platforms can enforce their own rules: Carousell explicitly prohibits reselling tickets above face value in its Concert & Event Ticket Policy, and will remove listings and warn sellers who break it.
How to Actually Get Singapore Football Tickets Next Time
If you’re trying to catch the next Singapore national team match without getting caught out, here’s what actually helps based on how this sale played out:
- Only buy through the official channel — for national team and AFF tournament matches, that’s currently Tickethotline. FAS has explicitly said ticket authenticity can’t be guaranteed through any other channel.
- Be logged in and ready before the exact sale time — not “around” 11am, but at 11am. Have your payment details already saved so checkout is as fast as possible.
- Don’t refresh repeatedly right before sales open — this can sometimes drop you out of a virtual queue. Follow the platform’s own queueing instructions if one is used.
- If you see a listing above face value on Carousell, report it rather than buy it — it violates Carousell’s own ticket policy and gets removed once flagged.
- For a scam (paid but never received a ticket), contact CASE (Consumers Association of Singapore) with the details — that crosses from scalping into an actual reportable offence.
Frequently Asked Questions
What was the final score between Singapore and Thailand?
Thailand won 4-3 on aggregate across two legs: Singapore lost the first leg 1-3 at home (15 Aug 2026) and won the second leg 2-1 away in Bangkok (18 Aug 2026), which wasn’t enough to overturn the two-goal deficit. Thailand advanced to the ASEAN Championship final.
Why did Singapore-Thailand tickets sell out so fast?
Over 4,000 tickets went on sale at 11am on 12 August 2026 and sold out in roughly 90 minutes. Fans reported the process felt automated, with seats disappearing instantly, leading to widespread suspicion that bots were buying in bulk to resell at inflated prices.
Is it legal to resell tickets above face value in Singapore?
Yes, currently — there’s no Singapore law against reselling tickets above face value as long as a real ticket is actually delivered. It only becomes illegal if it’s a scam (payment taken, no ticket delivered). Marketplaces like Carousell separately prohibit above-face-value ticket listings under their own terms, regardless of the law.
Where should I buy Singapore national team match tickets?
Through the official ticketing partner only — Tickethotline handled sales for this tournament. FAS has warned that tickets bought through unofficial resellers can’t be guaranteed as authentic.
